Prophets of (P)Doom, Part One: Rationalism and AI Psychosis
A conversation on the Subliminal Jihad podcast dissecting the current fevered dystopian landscape of AI
I recently went on the Subliminal Jihad podcast. We discuss Silicon Valley’s particular brand of rationalism, the Zizian cult, the difference between ChatGPT and AlphaGo, AIs mastering the ancient Chinese game of Go, Go as a Maoist revolutionary military strategy, capital as the first true AGI, the October Revolution as the greatest historical attempt to build a friendly AGI, and more. You can listen to part one of our conversation on YouTube, Soundcloud, Spotify, Apple, Patreon, etc.

Great podcast! You're doing #2 with them too?
Sometimes, I felt like one interviewer had a tendency to conflate the search for AGI with the possibility of machine takeover, which then became like 'machines won't get to AGI so we're safe.' I don't see achieving AGI and the danger of machine takeover as especially connected outcomes personally. I think machine takeover will be more because we give or they acquire access to vital infrastructure. AGI doesn't really come into this.
